Crewleader

Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Parks Crewleader. This position, under general supervision, performs grounds activities and landscaping, repairing and maintaining playground equipment and facilities, and related projects. Work involves supervising an assigned work crew; ensuring the upkeep of grounds; supporting the grounds keeping activities through training and maintenance of supplies; maintaining equipment and mowers; keeping bathrooms clean, orderly, and operational; and maintaining a safe environment.

Hours of operation: Employment in this full-time position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include frequent weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.

Qualifications: Requires an Associate’s degree in turf management or related field supplemented by three years of grounds and facility maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Bachelor’s degree in turf management or a related field with experience in electrical, plumbing, irrigation and/or landscaping preferred. Valid category 24 ornamental and turf pesticide applicators license holder preferred. Must possess a valid State driver's license; CDL license preferred. Must be capable of obtaining CDL and pesticide license within 6 months of employment if not currently held.

The successful candidate must be a mature and highly capable individual and must demonstrate superb skills in team leadership and motivation. He/She must have excellent communication (both verbal and written), customer service, organization, and project management skills. The position requires a smart, dynamic, resourceful, reliable, highly motivated, self-starter who is pro-active, able to develop new protocols and procedures, and respond to unexpected challenges, oftentimes with limited outside guidance. Activity Leader
Salary $8.50/hour

Classification: Part-Time

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for multiple open positions of Activity Leader to assist in the delivery of the summer camp. The position is part time in nature. These positions will primarily design and deliver program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. Activity Leaders will also assist in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the summer camp Unit Supervisor.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent. Preferably has an Associate’s Degree in Education, Parks & Recreation or a related field or is actively pursuing one. Applicants must have reliable transportation. Successful applicant will display a positive attitude and professional manner.

These seasonal positions will work the entire length of the camp as well as one or more training days and planning weeks prior to the camp start date. Required group training will take place at a later scheduled date in the week prior to the camp start date.

Lifeguard
Salary: $10.00/hour

Classification: Part-Time

VLPRA will pay for Lifeguard certification if hired; must be available for training on ALL dates:

April 27th        4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
April 28th        5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
April 29th        10:00 am - 6:00 pm
April 30th        10:00 am - 6:00 pm

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for multiple lifeguard positions. These temporary part time positions will work from May until September of 2017. Responsibilities include but are not limited to preventing, recognizing and responding to emergencies, providing care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over, maintaining the pool chemicals and water conditions per health department regulations, providing excellent customer service and ensuring safety of all aquatic patrons by enforcing all safety rules and regulations.

These positions work both traditional and untraditional hours to include some weekends. Hours and shifts may vary depending on special events and needs of the Authority.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a minimum of high school diploma or GED and be 18 years of age or older. Applicants must have current certification in CPR and First Aid as well as current Lifeguard Certification. VLPRA will pay for the training for applicants if hired and available on the April 27th – 30th dates listed above. Applicants must have reliable transportation. Successful applicant will display a positive attitude and professional manner. One year experience in lifeguard role or similar aquatic setting preferred.

Groundskeeper
Salary:  $23,088 - $32,323

Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Parks Groundskeeper. This position, under regular supervision, performs grounds maintenance for the maintenance and repair of the parks and recreational facilities and grounds. Work involves ensuring cleanliness of grounds, operates spray equipment and machinery in the application of various herbicides, preparing sports turf playing fields for activities, performing electrical maintenance, performing general carpentry duties, providing horticulture maintenance, and painting. Reports to the Parks Coordinator.

Hours of operation: Employment in this full-time position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include frequent weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.

Competitive Soccer Referee
Salary: $16 per game

Classification: Part Time

The position of Competitive Soccer Referee records game statistics and/or keeps time for youth soccer programs and is responsible for officiating in scheduled games and programs sponsored or coordinated by VLPRA. Must be aware of the sports officiating rules and playing guidelines for soccer. Assists with the implementation of all rules, regulations, and policies governing the sports program, and mediate conflicts and official protests in conjunction with the specified VLPRA Supervisor. A moderate level of independent judgment is necessary to be a Competitive Soccer Referee. This position works with the Youth Soccer U10, U12 and U14 leagues. This position reports to the Youth Athletic Supervisor.

Qualifications: Must be a minimum of 17 years old. Prior experience in soccer is required. Knowledge of the Rules of Play standard to soccer and the ability to enforce such rules. Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with other participants including coaches, players, supervisors, and other employees. Must have reliable transportation. USSF Soccer Referee certification preferred.
