Lifeguard

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for multiple lifeguard positions. These temporary part time positions will work from May until September of 2018. Responsibilities include but are not limited to preventing, recognizing and responding to emergencies, providing care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over, maintaining the pool chemicals and water conditions per health department regulations, providing excellent customer service and ensuring safety of all aquatic patrons by enforcing all safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a minimum of high school diploma or GED and be 18 years of age or older.  Applicants must have current Lifeguard Certification.

Activity Leader
Salary $8.50/hour

Classification: Part-Time

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for multiple open positions of Activity Leader to assist in the delivery of the summer camp. The position is part time in nature. These positions will primarily design and deliver program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. Activity Leaders will also assist in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the summer camp Unit Supervisor.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent. Preferably has an Associate’s Degree in Education, Parks & Recreation or a related field or is actively pursuing one. Applicants must have reliable transportation. Successful applicant will display a positive attitude and professional manner.

Hours of Operation: Normal hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Hours and shifts may vary depending on special events and needs of the Authority. The camp will run from May until August. The camp will not operate during the week containing the 4th of July. These seasonal positions will work the entire length of the camp as well as one or more training days and planning weeks prior to the camp start date. Required group training will take place at a later scheduled date in the week prior to the camp start date.

Scorekeeper

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for multiple positions of scorekeepers and umpires to assist with the Youth Athletics sports. The positions are seasonal and part time in nature. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the Youth Athletics Supervisor. Major duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:

Groundskeeper
Salary: $23,896 - $33,454

Classification: Full Time

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Groundskeeper. This position, under regular supervision, performs grounds maintenance and repair of the parks and recreational facilities and grounds. Work involves ensuring cleanliness of grounds, operating spray equipment and machinery in the application of various herbicides, preparing sports turf playing fields for activities, performing electrical maintenance, performing general carpentry duties, providing horticulture maintenance, and painting.

Hours of operation:  Employment in this full time position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include frequent weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.

Qualifications: Requires an Associate's degree in turf management or related filed supplemented by one to two years of grounds and facility maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Bachelor's degree in turf management or a related field with experience in electrical, plumbing, irrigation, and/or landscaping preferred. Valid category 24 ornamental and turf pesticide applicators license holder preferred. Must possess a valid State driver's license; CDL license preferred. Must be capable of obtaining CDL and pesticide license within 6 months of employment if not currently held. Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority is a drug-free workplace. Monitor
Salary: $10.00/hour

Classification: Part-Time

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Monitor. The position is part time in nature. This position is responsible for the monitoring of the facilities during rental time frames, assisting all departments with concessions, accompanying departmental staff on weekday and weekend trips to assist with chaperoning youth and other similar support duties. A monitor should provide quality customer service and represent the Authority in a positive manner.

Hours of Operation: Employment in this part time position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.  The maximum hours the successful candidate will be allowed to work during the year will be 999 hours.  There are no benefits or overtime with this part time position.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED supplemented by one year of responsible secretarial or clerical work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid Georgia State Drivers license and have reliable transportation. Successful applicant will display a positive attitude and professional manner. If offered the position applicant must satisfactorily complete all post offer background checks, a Motor Vehicle Report and a drug test.

Non-Competitive Soccer Referee
Salary: $12 per game
Closing Date: Open Until Filled
Classification: Part Time

The position of Non-Competitive Soccer Referee records game statistics and/or keeps time for youth soccer programs and is responsible for officiating in scheduled games and programs sponsored or coordinated by VLPRA. Must be aware of the sports officiating rules and playing guidelines for soccer. Assists with the implementation of all rules, regulations, and policies governing the sports program. A moderate level of independent judgment is necessary to be a Non-Competitive Soccer Referee. This position works with the Youth Soccer U6 and U8 leagues. This position reports to the Youth Athletic Supervisor.

Qualifications: Prior experience in soccer is required. Knowledge of the Rules of Play standard to soccer and the ability to enforce such rules. Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with other participants including coaches, players, supervisors, and other employees. USSF Soccer Referee certification preferred.

Hours of Operation: Games will be played primarily between 5pm and 9pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during the weeks of the soccer seasons. Some games may be played on Saturday mornings depending on the needs of the Authority.

Seasonal Tournament Grounds Crew
Salary: $11.00-12.00/hour

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation authority is accepting applications for Seasonal Tournaments Grounds Crew positions. These positions are responsible for performing essential grounds maintenance for weekend tournaments of the Valdosta Lowndes Parks and Recreation Authority.  Work involves ensuring that the general aesthetics of facilities and grounds are attractive and inviting to all participants and attendees at parks and facilities.  Reports to Full-time Parks Staff.

Qualifications: Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn common ball field maintenance and safe cleaning practices; must be at least 16 years of age; must possess a valid State driver's license.

Hours of Operation: These positions primarily work weekend hours during tournaments. Hours range from Friday afternoons to Sunday nights and may range from early morning hours to late night hours.

Human Resource Intern
Salary: Dependent upon qualifications

Classification: Part-Time

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is now accepting applications for the position of Human Resource Intern. This part time role is responsible for assisting the Human Resource Manager in all aspects of the HR department to include background checks, employee selection, hiring, filing, data entry, and many other support functions. The position will work between 15 and 25 hours a week. Standard hours will fall between 8:30am- 5pm on weekdays though hours and shifts may vary depending on special events and needs of the Authority. Academic and other scheduling conflicts will be accommodated within reason.
