Title:  Youth Athletics Rec Aide

Salary: Dependent upon Qualifications & Experience

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Youth Athletics Rec Aide. The position is part time in nature. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the Youth Athletics Supervisor. Major duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:

·         Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with planning, organizing and coordinating all youth athletic programs, weekend tournaments, and special events, within budget constraints.

·         Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with training and supervising personnel (e.g., officials, score keepers) for athletic programs; performs duties of part time personnel in their absence.

·         Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with scheduling the use of athletic facilities for outside groups.

·         Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with requisitions, reimbursements for maintenance expenses, purchasing all supplies and equipment for youth athletic programs.

·         Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with addressing inquiries regarding athletic programs by telephone.

·         Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position works both traditional and untraditional hours to include some weekends and nights. Hours and shifts may vary depending on special events and needs of the Authority.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a minimum education of a two year degree or equivalent work experience in similar position. Knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports (e.g., softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, football) is a must. Skill in planning and coordinating large groups of people in order to insure the availability of facilities, supplies and volunteers for athletic events. Applicants must have reliable transportation. Successful applicant will display a positive attitude and professional manner. If offered the position applicant must satisfactorily complete all post offer background checks, a MVR and a drug test

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Title:  Secretary

Salary: DOQ (Excellent Benefits Package)

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Secretary. This is a full time salaried position. This position is responsible for all administrative clerical duties including answering all incoming calls, website maintenance, general data entry requests and supporting the Bookkeeper. Some responsibilities within this scope are:

·         Planning, organizing and coordinating all athletic programs, weekend tournaments, assists with other recreation programs and special events, within budget constraints.

·         Trains personnel (e.g., officials, scorekeepers) for athletic programs; performs duties of personnel in their absence.

·         Requisitions supplies, part-time employees and reimbursements for maintenance expenses, purchases all supplies and equipment for recreation programs.

·         Schedules the use of recreation facilities for outside groups.

·         Writes and submits monthly reports to Mildred Hunter Center Supervisor.

·         Addresses inquiries regarding any programs offered at the Mildred Hunter Center by email, telephone or fax.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

This position works both traditional and untraditional hours to include some weekends and nights. Standard operating hours are weekdays from 8am- 5pm though hours and shifts may vary depending on special events and needs of the Authority.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

·         Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.

·         Knowledge of data processing methods and procedures.

·         Skill in operating a computer, typewriter, calculator, etc.

·         Skill in written and oral communication.

·         Skills in verbal communication and human relations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 60 hours of post high school education completed from an accredited Higher Learning Institution, Sufficient experience and understanding of the basic principles and major duties of the position usually associated with having held a similar position for three to five years.  Ability to type 40 wpm. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and to organize and process work; proven public relations & marketing skills; ability to maintain website and promote programs and events through social media; good planning and organizational skills.

Title:  Seasonal Park Caretaker

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the positions of Seasonal Park Caretaker. The position is part time in nature. Responsibilities include but are not limited to performing a variety of general-purpose duties and manual labor tasks related to the upkeep and improvement of park grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Some responsibilities within this scope are:

·         Maintenance duties may include, but are not limited to: litter pick up, landscape development and upkeep, cleaning and maintenance of park facilities and public areas, mowing and trimming around park grounds as needed, assisting with parking and crowd control for special events and programs.

·         Prepares and maintains park exterior and interior facilities for use by performing duties such as cleaning, pressure washing, painting and routine maintenance of reservable areas, recreational equipment, shelters, and park grounds adjacent to reservable spaces, common areas, storage rooms, kitchen areas and restrooms.

·         Uses and maintains wrenches, pruners, trimmers, brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, blowers, brushes, rollers, shovels, rakes, hammers and other common hand tools.

·         Operates licensed and non-licensed motor vehicles, ATVs, tractors, mowers, bush hogs, loaders and other equipment.

·         Meets and deals with the public in a professional, helpful and pleasant manner. Acts as a good-will ambassador for the Authority Parks at all times. Maintains a professional, cooperative working relationship with other staff members.

·         Follows Board policies in Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual and Employee Safety Manual.

·         Other duties as assigned.

Employment in this position may require an irregular work schedule including weekends, and holidays depending on the season of the year or as other conditions warrant.  The maximum hours the successful candidate will be allowed to work in 2012 will be 999 hours.  There are no benefits or overtime with this part time position.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED; Three to Five years previous grounds, building, or landscape maintenance experience is preferred for this position. Ability to deal tactfully with the general public and co-workers as well as the ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and the visiting public; a flexible and intermittent work schedule and ability to work independently and take initiative when required; general good health and ability to perform the physical labor tasks required of this position.

Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is a drug-free workplace. A pre-employment drug screen, criminal history background investigation, and a Motor Vehicle Report will be conducted.
