Mildred Hunter Center Mission Statement

To provide quality recreation programs

and services for all community center

participants including senior citizens,

youth, teens, and adults.

 

Hours of Operation: M-Thurs 9:00-6:00, Fri 9:00-5:00, Sat 10:00-2:00

 

A facility constructed and owned by the City of Valdosta and operated with funding from the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners. Dedicated on June 29, 2002. A joint effort of the City of Valdosta Mayor and Council and the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners. Funded by the 1997 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and the State of Georgia through a Community Block Development Grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.  

 

Toning & Ab Class

The Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority is offering Toning & Ab Class at Mildred Hunter Community Center.  Come join the Mildred Hunter Community Center’s Toning & Ab Class, which will be taught on Wednesday mornings from 11am-12:15pm.  This is a good way to lose weight and stay fit.  For more information, contact Andre Newson at 259-5437 or Michael Foster at 259-5407.

Volunteer Youth Basketball Coaches Needed!

 

 

The Valdosta*Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority’s Mildred Hunter Center is proud to announce that we are accepting volunteer applications to Coach teams in the 2012 Youth Basketball Program. The program will include fifteen (15) teams developed through a draft implementation.  Each team is allowed one (1) Head Coach and up to three (2) Assistant Coaches. All coaching positions will be filled on a first come first serve basis and positions are limited. Volunteer applicants eligibility to participate will be subject to a Criminal History Report and a Motor Vehicle Report. Applications for coaching are due by November 10th, 2012. The first coaches meeting is scheduled to be held on November 19th, 2012.

 

 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is pleased to announce various volunteer opportunities. Currently, the parks and recreation department is recruiting coaches for Youth Basketball and Youth Football for the Mildred Hunter Community Center. We are also recruiting volunteers for all programs and services offered by the department. All volunteers will have to undergo a criminal background check and motor vehicle record check which will be paid for by the authority. If you would like to volunteer for one of our programs or services, applications can be downloaded from the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority’s website, or picked up from the administration office. All completed forms will need to be returned to 1901 North Forrest Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Forms can also be mailed to Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority; Attn: Paul Batts; P.O. Box 1746; Valdosta, 31603.

The program will include twenty (20) teams developed through a draft implementation. The All Stars team will go on to participate in this year’s State Tournament. This season the older youth teams will be playing on the regulation size field at Scott Park under the all new lighting! Each team is allowed one (1) Head Coach and up to three (3) Assistant Coaches. All coaching positions will be filled on a first come first serve basis and positions are limited. Volunteer applicants eligibility to participate will be subject to a Criminal History Report and a Motor Vehicle Report. Applications for coaching are due by June 11th, 2012. The first coaches meeting is scheduled to be held on June 26th, 2012.

COMMUNITY CENTER MEMBERSHIP

All participants must pay an annual membership fee implemented for the Mildred Hunter Community Center.

                    The membership fee is as follows:

                    Adults 18 and up:   $30.00 per year

                    Seniors 50 and up : $12.00 per year or $1.00 per month

 

This membership fee will give you access to all of our recreational programs.  Memberships will not cover evening instructional programs (Sewing Classes, Computer Classes, Karate Program, or Basketball Leagues).  All participants must also complete and sign an active membership waiver form before participating in any center activity or program.
