Youth Programs 

Marching Pride Drill Team

The Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority is offering The Marching Pride Drill Team Program at Mildred Hunter Community Center.  This is a mentoring program for young men in the City of Valdosta that helps in building self-esteem, discipline and motivation.  The Marching Pride Drill Team Program starts 8/1/12 and meets Wednesday afternoons from 4:30-6:00.  For more information, contact Andre Newson at 259-5437. 

Reading & Tutorial Program

The Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority is offering The Reading & Tutorial Program at Mildred Hunter Community Center.  This is a learning program designed to help with basic reading skills and fundamentals and excelling in academics.  The Reading & Tutorial Program starts 8/8/12 and meets Monday-Thursday afternoons from 4:00-6:00 and Friday afternoons from 4:00-5:00.  For more information, contact Michael Foster at 259-5407. 

Youth Remote Control Car Club

The Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority is offering The Youth Remote Control Car Club at Mildred Hunter Community Center.  This is a mentoring program for young men that builds character and self-esteem and welcomes all youth to learn about remote control car racing.  The Youth Remote Control Car Club meets every other Wednesday afternoons from 5:00-6:00.  For more information, contact Andre Newson at 259-5437. 

Hip Hop Dance Class

The Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority is offering Hip Hop Dance Class at Mildred Hunter Community Center.  This is a program for youth to teach beginners hip-hop dance to children ages 8-12 & 13-18.  The class will be taught on Monday afternoons, 6-7, for children ages 8-12 and Wednesday afternoons, from 5-6, for ages 13-18 starting in October.  For more information, contact Michael Foster at 259-5407. 

Teen Programs

Teen Activities

The Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority is offering Teen Activities at Mildred Hunter Community Center starting 8/8/12.  (The times are Monday-Tuesday afternoons, 5-7:30, Wednesday afternoons, 4-6, Thursday afternoons, 4-6:30, and Friday afternoons, 3-5.)  The teen program consists of Mentoring, Teen Room, Computer Lab and Open Recreation in the Gym.  For more information, contact Andre Newson at 259-5437 or Michael Foster at 259-5407. 

Intervention Guidance Mentoring Program

The Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority is offering Intervention Guidance Mentoring Program at Mildred Hunter Community Center.   This is a mentoring program for youth and teenagers ages 11-18 to help in dealing with life, goals, conflict, and character to become model citizens.  The Intervention Guidance Mentoring Program starts 9/24/12 and meets the 2nd & 4th Monday of each month, 5:30-6:30pm.  For more information, contact Andre Newson at 259-5437. 

Young Ladies’ Circle of Ambitions

The Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority is offering The Young Ladies Circles of Ambition at Mildred Hunter Community Center.   This program provides guidance, mentors, and cultivates young ladies into successful women.  The young ladies will participate in group mentoring that will include guest speakers, workshops that are educational, and community service that promotes healthy living and productive lifestyles.  Program meets once a month starting 10/20/12, for ages 7-13, starts Saturday, 11am-12pm.  For more information, contact Michael Foster at 259-5407.
